Consultation on the Irish household waste collection market
Saturday, February 10, 2018
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has opened a public consultation to seek views on the Irish household waste collection market. The information obtained through this consultation will help to inform a study that the CCPC is currently undertaking in this market.
Through the course of this study, the CCPC has met with consumer representative groups, academics, industry, regulatory bodies, and requested information from operators in the market. The CCPC has also commissioned consumer research on this market, and engaged with other national competition and consumer protection agencies on how waste markets operate in those jurisdictions.
This study will consider if the introduction of an enhanced regulatory regime could efficiently address consumer and operator issues identified in the short and long term.
A copy of the CCPC’s consultation paper is available here, and the closing date for submissions is the 2 March 2018.
