This is the first Local Economic & Community Plan (LECP) for the Fingal local authority area. It is designed to promote and support the economic and the local and community development of Fingal over the period 2016 – 2021.
Welcoming the launch of the Plan, Fingal County Council Chief Executive Paul Reid said: “The Local Economic & Community Plan seeks to advance the overarching purpose of local government as being ‘to promote the wellbeing and quality of life of citizens and communities’. The plan includes actions that Fingal County Council will deliver directly and also actions led by or delivered in partnership with other economic and community development stakeholders. For the first time there is an integrated plan to help the local economy and communities achieve balanced growth.”

Dr. Pat O’Connor, Chair of Fingal Local Community Development Committee, and Head of School of Business & Humanities, Institute Of Technology Blanchardstown, said: “The Fingal Local Economic & Community Plan sets out a vision to improve the wellbeing of people and the economy of the county as a whole though enhanced strategic planning, better targeting and co-ordination of resources and more meaningful results for local communities. No one single agency can implement this plan while working alone and it is only by working together, collaboratively, across publically funded agencies and civil society stakeholders can we best coordinate the resources available to us more effectively and efficiently to enhance quality of life and community wellbeing.”

Acting Mayor Cllr. Kieran Dennison, who is also chairperson of Fingal County Council’s Economic Development Strategic Policy Committee, attended Wednesday’s launch and said: “The purpose of this Local Economic & Community Plan is to set out the objectives and actions needed to promote and support the economic development and the local community development of Fingal. I would like to acknowledge the hard work of the Local Community Development Committee over the past twelve months on the development of this plan.”

The Fingal Plan identifies six themes; Enterprise & Employment, Learning, Training and Working, Well-being and Social Inclusion, Leadership and Community Empowerment, Tourism, Environment & Heritage, Urban Towns and Rural Communities. In addition, the plan contains 10 High level goals, 38 objective and 115 actions and identifies the actions needed to promote and support the economic and the local and community development of the County.
