Local Fine Gael Branch raises €1,077 for Barnardos.

Fine Gael’s Laurel Lodge Branch has raised €1,077 for Barnardos in Mulhuddart. I had the pleasure of presenting the cheque to Barnardos on Wednesday. We have a great Fine Gael organisation in the area and as well as supporting politics we do lots of other things to help our local community.

For our spring fundraiser this year we selected Barnardos. We particularly wanted to recognise the valuable work they do in supporting over 250 vulnerable children and their families in the area.

I want to thank Ned Walsh and the Laurel Lodge Branch of Fine Gael for organising the quiz night and raising so much money for this worthy cause. In these cash strapped times every little extra can mean a lot for local organisations like Barnardos. As chairman of the Blanchardstown Area partnership which works closely with Barnardos I appreciate the work of their staff and volunteers in Dublin 15.

Barnardos employ 23 people full time in their purpose built facility at Church road, Mulhuddart. The services provided are focused on increasing children’s social, emotional, educational and physical development and well being Much of the work with children from birth to six years focuses on school-readiness. Programmes include parent and toddler groups, a pre-school which operates four mornings a week, a parent’s support group once a week and on-going intensive one-on-one work with individual children and their parents based on their needs.

After-school groups are provided to give children the environment and support they need to do their homework and develop their creativity and confidence. A Friendship Group meets weekly working with a small group of children to help them understand, express and manage their emotions and to develop the social skills that enable them to make and sustain friendships.
