Odour Nuisances at Swords Waste Water Treatment Plant.

Friday, June 1, 2012

Please note the following statement From Fingal County Council today in relation to the current odour nuisances at Swords Waste Water Treatment Plant.

Because of recent odour issues at Swords Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Plant Manager suspected that the odour control system was not operating to its full potential.  A full inspection of the odour control system was therefore undertaken this week.

As a result of this inspection, a partial malfunction of the Odour Control System has been identified today by staff at the Plant. While the system is still operational and is controlling and reducing odours, it is not functioning to its full capacity. Replacement materials and parts are currently being sourced in order to restore the system to its full functionality.

Given the impending Bank Holiday on Monday and the additional Bank Holiday in the United Kingdom on Tuesday, it may take between ten days and two weeks before the system is fully restored.

Council staff are doing everything within their power to expedite this timeframe. In the meantime, every other possible effort is being taken to minimise potential odour nuisances and the Council apologises to local residents for any inconvenience that may be incurred.

We apologise to residents of the area who may experience odours from the Plant while we await materials necessary to repair the problem.
