€14m School Prefab Replacement Programme
Friday, April 27, 2012
189 schools received offers to replace prefabs with
permanent classrooms during 2012. This represented one third of all schools with
prefabs. They have all been involved in conversations with the Department over
recent weeks.
78 schools will be receiving letters of approval from the Department today or tomorrow, allowing them to begin this work to ensure it is completed during 2012. These projects amount to confirmed expenditure of approximately €14 million on prefab replacement.
An additional 110 schools have also accepted the offer of prefab replacement, but wish to have requests for additional accommodation considered at the same time. These schools remain in discussion with the Department – the Dept expects the majority of these requests to be resolved in the coming weeks.
